Our mission

The Heart of What We Do

PRESERVING THE PAST, INSPIRING THE FUTURE.

PRESERVING THE PAST,
INSPIRING THE FUTURE.

A living landmark dedicated to history, education, and discovery.

The Pigeon Key mission goes beyond preserving a historic landmark – we strive to protect the stories, structures, and spirit of the island for generations to come. From maintaining our National Historic Landmark to sharing the fascinating history of the Henry Flagler era, we work to keep the past alive and accessible.

Equally important is our commitment to education and marine science. Through hands-on research, summer camps, exhibits, and community programs, we aim to inspire curiosity, stewardship, and a love for the unique ecosystem of the Florida Keys. Every program, tour, and activity is designed to connect people – young and old – to the history, science, and natural beauty that makes Pigeon Key such a special place.

We believe that by preserving the past and informing the future, Pigeon Key is more than just an island – it’s a hub for discovery, learning, and connection. We can’t wait to share it with you.

Pigeon Key and Marine Science Center

Pigeon Key was designated as a National Historic landmark in 1990. In 1992, we turned it into a 501c-3 non-profit organization to protect the island’s cultural impact since the Henry Flagler era.
