For the second year in a row, Pigeon Key is honored to be voted Marathon’s Best Summer Camp! After being thrilled with the nomination back in August, we waited many long weeks during the voting process, hoping to be at the top of voters’ lists once again. On September 17th, the Pigeon Key staff attended the annual Best of Marathon awards night hosted by the Keys Weekly to accept our award.

Our Executive Director, Kelly, was also recognized for his incredible work to make Pigeon Key a beautiful destination to learn about history and for his impact on the Marathon community. He accepted the Henry Flagler Settler Award during the ceremony and we are so proud of him and honored to work with him. We want to congratulate all the nominees and winners who were there, and thank the Keys Weekly and the Rotary Club for an amazing night!

From all of us on Pigeon Key, we want to thank everyone who voted for us this year, we could not have done this without you. We also extend our gratitude to our former Education and Summer Camp Director Casey, for all her work, love, and dedication she has put into Pigeon Key Summer Camps for many years. Of course, Summer Camp wouldn’t be the same without all of our incredible campers, new and returning, that make each year special and every day an adventure!

Our Summer Camp season is 5 weeks long held during July and August each year. We offer day camps during which campers arrive in the morning and enjoy a full day of fun, sun, and marine science before getting picked up again in the evening. Overnight camps are also offered, and these campers get to sleep in the Pigeon Key bunkhouses, enjoy sunset fishing off the dock, a bonfire night, and of course loads of marine science activities!

Both day and overnight campers learn about sharks, invertebrates, marine habitats, and more. Then they apply their knowledge during outdoor activities like going to Sombrero Reef, snorkeling around the island, tide pooling, walking on the Old 7 Mile Bridge, and exploring the island!

Summer Camp is a great time for kids to meet new friends, reconnect with returning campers year after year, learn about marine science, play fun games, explore our incredible ocean, and step out of their comfort zone! We love watching our returning campers grow every year, and meeting new campers is always exciting. Every year is a new adventure, and we can’t wait for Summer Camp 2023!

If you are interested in learning more about our camps, follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates on the registration process, which begins in January 2023 for the 2023 camps. You can also visit our registration page on our website for more information, and contact our new Education and Summer Camp Director Callie at callie@pigeonkey.net to be added to the latest email list.

Thank you again to everyone who voted and all who made Summer Camp 2022 special. We can’t wait to see you all again in 2023!
